The Surf

THE EAST COAST (The Wild East)

2.4 Hours east of airport. This area sees much less traffic than the La Libertad area with powerful righthand point breaks ideal for solid intermediate to expert surfers. Average wave heights 5-10 ft from March to November. Epic swells up to 15 ft. Average crowd per point: 10 surfers. The wild east tours are in high demand and you should book in advance for peak season (March-November). We recommend booking 3-6 months in advance.

Las Flores: Very consistent right point break that works best at low to mid tide. Sand and rock bottom that breaks mechanically and has been compared to El Capitan in California with long rides and a hollow outside section. There is no infrastructure here and a 4x4 is needed.

Punta Mango: Powerful, hollow right point breaking over cobblestone, accessible only by boat. Extremely hollow take-off with a serious barrel at size.

La Ventana: Right point break with exposed inside reef at low tide. Good unsurfed waves.

There are many other secret and remote spots and miles of beach break.

THE WEST COAST- (La Libertad area)

PUNTA ROCA - This is arguably the best wave in Central America, definitely the best right. Its long and hollow (300 yards on a set wave), booties for people with sensitive feet, high level of local talent so respect the locals and receive the same respect.

LA PAZ – this point is just inside of Punta Roca. It’s a long slow crumblig wave for beginners.

LA BOCANA- This is El Salvador’s only left. It’s a powerful and hollow river-mouth for advanced surfers. Heavy local scene on weekends, best to only surf this during the week for Gringos.

LA BOCANITA- This is a powerful, intense beachbreak for advanced surfers. Expect to see an awesome local grommet scene here. Friendly lineup but be ready for heavy waves.
SUNZAL- Very long right (300 yards), fast take off with perfect carving walls, rare barrels but perfect for all surfers. Great learning waves from November-February.

EL SUNZALITO- This is a fast beach break for intermediate to advanced surfers.

El ZONTE- Right hand point with some fast sections. All surfers. Very nice, quiet town with nice restaurants and many talented artisans.

El Cocal- Three right hand points, not as consistent as other spots but epic when its on. Very small crowds(0-5 person lineups).

K59- Powerful right hand point over sand and rock bottom. Very small crowds, probably just your group during the week, small weekend crowd.

K61- Fickle but insane right point when its on. Only advanced surfers. No one else will be surfing here.

MIZATA – Isolated Right point, no one else surfing here.
