Juayua

The beautiful city of Juayua is part of the famous "Ruta de Las Flores" that includes six traditional moutain villages: Juayua, Nahuizalco, Apaneca, Salcoatitan, Ataco, and Tacuba. The name Juayua en the Salvadoran indigenous language Nahuatl means "river of the purple orchids."
Along with attractions for tourists such as the weekend food festival, Juayua offers a perfect climate at almost 4000 feet above sea level. Here at the food and handcraft festival you will see a remarkable number of orchids and many for sale at just $1.00!
Juayua is an excellent place to go horseback riding or mountain biking. Visit the coffee plantations in nearby Apaneca where the high altitude makes possible the cultivation of some of the best coffee in the world. Just outside the town, you will find ancient villages and arqueological sites more than 2500 years old. El Salvador's most famous national park "El Imposible" is also close by, with abundant flora and fauna, mountain hikes, and waterfalls.
